THE GRANDE REMISE

"Where standards are not imposed — they are inherited."

The Grande Remise is not a service category. It is a philosophy, born in the carriageways and ateliers of nineteenth-century France, where the finest houses of Paris first codified what it meant to transport a person of consequence with absolute fidelity to comfort, timing, and discretion. Long before the motor car, the remise was the room in which a carriage was housed, prepared, and kept in readiness — a physical expression of a household's standards.

The Fédération Française de la Grande Remise was established to preserve, transmit, and certify those standards in the modern age. Where the luxury transport industry had become dominated by price competition and anonymity, FFGR chose instead the opposite path: rigour, apprenticeship, and the elevation of the chauffeur's craft to its rightful place within the luxury arts.

FFGR UK is the Federation's British chapter — an embassy of this spirit in a country that has always understood the profound relationship between ceremony, movement, and the expression of rank. Here, the traditions of French savoir-faire and British protocol meet not as rivals, but as complementary languages of excellence.

IFGR ACADEMY UK

Where Craft Becomes
Mastery

The Institut Français de la Grande Remise delivers professional certification programmes designed to elevate the practice of luxury ground transport from a trade to a recognised discipline. Programmes are delivered in English, at venues across London and the United Kingdom.

01

Luxury Chauffeur
Certification

A comprehensive programme covering vehicle presentation standards, route management, VIP client protocol, discretion obligations, emergency procedures, and the history and philosophy of the Grande Remise tradition. Upon successful completion, candidates receive the IFGR Certified Chauffeur designation — the only French-standard professional qualification for luxury chauffeurs recognised across the FFGR Worldwide network.

02

VIP Concierge
Protocol

Designed for concierge professionals in luxury hospitality and private household service, this programme covers the coordination of ground transport for ultra-high-net-worth principals, diplomatic guests, and corporate VIPs. Topics include security awareness, discretion protocols, language of luxury service, and the management of multi-leg itineraries with precision timing requirements.

03

Executive Protection
Driving

Delivered in partnership with accredited UK security training providers (SIA-compliant), this programme bridges the disciplines of close protection and luxury chauffeur service. Candidates learn threat assessment, counter-surveillance awareness, secure routing, and the behavioural standards expected in high-profile principal protection environments — without compromising the discretion and refinement of the luxury experience.

04

Heritage & Etiquette
French Tradition

An immersive programme in the history, culture, and codes of the Grande Remise tradition. Covering the evolution of the luxury coachbuilding arts from the Ancien Régime to the golden age of the motor car, the etiquette of service in French, British, and international luxury contexts, and the vocabulary of excellence that distinguishes the truly educated practitioner from the merely competent one.

PATRONAGE & HERITAGE

The Guardians of
French Automotive Legacy

France gave the world its first great motor cars — Bugatti, Voisin, Delage, Hispano-Suiza. These were not merely machines; they were expressions of a national genius for combining engineering with art. FFGR UK's Patronage programme exists to support the restoration, preservation, and cultural promotion of this heritage, ensuring that future generations may know and value what the twentieth century's finest craftsmen achieved.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to understand

The Grande Remise tradition was born in France, but its values — precision, discretion, elegance, and the elevation of craft — are universal. The United Kingdom has one of the world's most significant luxury ground transport markets, and a long tradition of complementary professional standards. FFGR UK exists to bring French certification standards and heritage programmes to British operators, whilst representing the profession's interests in a British regulatory context. The two traditions are natural allies, not competitors.
IFGR certification begins with an application to FFGR UK, followed by an initial assessment of your operations against the Federation's standards framework. Operators who meet the minimum requirements are invited to enrol their team members on the IFGR Luxury Chauffeur Certification programme. Upon successful completion, the IFGR Certified Operator designation is awarded for a period of two years, subject to renewal audit. Contact us at members@ffgruk.com to begin the process.
FFGR UK is currently pursuing charitable status for its Heritage Patronage programme. In the interim, donations made by UK taxpayers may be eligible for Gift Aid, which increases the value of your donation by 25% at no additional cost to you. Higher-rate taxpayers may also claim additional relief through self-assessment. We recommend consulting your tax adviser for guidance specific to your circumstances. Corporate donations may be deductible as a business expense.
FFGR UK is the institutional and training branch of the FFGR federation in the United Kingdom. For luxury chauffeur bookings in London and across the UK, please visit ffgrlondon.com — the FFGR operational chauffeur service for London, active from 29 April 2026. FFGR UK members are among the operators listed on the ffgrlondon.com referral directory.
The FFGR Heritage Patronage programme concentrates on pre-war and early post-war French coachbuilt automobiles of exceptional cultural significance: Bugatti (Types 35, 41 Royale, 57 Atlantic), Gabriel Voisin's revolutionary designs, the Delage D8 and D12 series, and the magnificent output of the Hispano-Suiza Paris atelier. We also support the documentation and archiving of French coachbuilders whose work — by Saoutchik, Figoni & Falaschi, Henri Chapron — represents the pinnacle of the collaboration between engineering and decorative art.
FFGR UK operates as the British division of the Fédération Française de la Grande Remise (SIREN 924671902, declared association under French law). FFGR UK is currently a divisional designation within the FFGR Worldwide structure rather than a separately incorporated UK entity. Formal UK incorporation is under consideration as the division's activities expand. The Institut Français de la Grande Remise (SIREN 933469264) operates as the Federation's educational and certification arm across all territories.
